The more you know! They weren't super nice, But it's a bit unexpected and sorta cool. They appear to have been available in both cloth and vinyl.

Yup it's a Lumina

I had no idea those even had a police package

It's sorta impossible to make a Lumina not look sketchy.

whoa Zero ass bolstering. You know New Haven police ran one of these for a while as an undercover car and I remember seeing that and saying - nahhhhhh

Yup, I don't think many departments used them.
I saw one from Prince George's Maryland Police last year. Sorta strange because of how old they are.

My dad had ones of those as an unmarked car back in the '90s, I remember those seats quite clearly (when they weren't totally covered in piles of paperwork at least). His was in Driftwood metallic beige with a grey interior, the Recaros were in a really hard wearing cloth, like chainmaille.

That's pretty awesome!
Were they comfortable?

You'd be sliding all over the place, Haha. They probably didn't have much bolstering to accommodate belt stuff.

The padding was extremely hard, so I guess they were designed to be quite supportive if you were going to be sitting in them for a long time. I've always liked softer seats myself, hence a Grand Marquis and a Fleetwood in my ownership history.

oh yeah no doubt. The backs arent scooped though which would make more sense to me

Haha, That's why I would expect massive red velour bench seats instead of the Recaros. Especially in a Lumina.

My first car was a white Lumina of this gen. it shed white paint like it was on a prom date.

The head rests also look awkwardly large.

recaro makes all kinds of crazy shit for city infrastructure I guess

Yup, They make the worst airplane seats though. Like, Incredibly horrible. They were so thin, skinny and generally uncomfortable. On a 7 hour flight, That's a negative.

When I had my Grand Prix guys on W-Body forums drooled over these. I was like meh.

Haha, That's exactly what I saw while Googling them. They look far more cut out for heavy duty use than comfort. If it weren't for the big "RECARO" stiched into them, I doubt they'd be popular at all.

They look like they are made from motel drapes and would fit better in a late 80's Trans Am than early 2000's Lumina.

The vinyl ones look like what the backseat should be made out of, and the cloth ones look like cheap carpet. Either way, They don't look like they belong in a Lumina yet it's still pretty cool that they're there.

Almost like GM was too cheap to design a proper seat for the car so they went to Recaro and just asked them for whatever leftovers they had kicking around.
Funny thing is GM actually had buckets in the LTZ which look like they would be more supportive than those Recaros.

They probably wanted to do something that would be slightly more accommodating for Police belts.
The leather ones would probably get pretty messed up in a relatively short amount of time I'm guessing.

My Grandparents had an LTZ, and the seats were couch-like comfortable. Too bad the rest of it sucked.

I had a white Lumina minivan. I still have nightmares of that POS......
